Stop Bristol Airport Expansion

Bristol International Airport is planning a massive expansion to its volume of flights, which will have damaging consequences not only for the environment but also for local people and local tourism.

The Council to Protect Rural England (CPRE) have commissioned a report on the economic impact of Bristol International Airport. Written by Professor John Whitelegg, a world authority on sustainable transport, it dispels the myth that airport expansion is good for the economy.

The airport is running a period of public consultation about its expasnion plans until the 12th of December. If you would like to support the Bristol Friends of the Earth campaign to stop the airport expansion plans, there are a number of things you can do.

What you can do to stop the expansion plans:

1. BIA have produced a master plan setting out their objectives. To view it, go to http://bristolairport.co.uk/about_us/master_plan_consultation.aspex

2. Voice your concerns about expansion by writing to:

BIA Draft Master Plan Consultation
Bristol International Airport
Bristol, BS48 3DY

Phone: 01275 475440. Email: masterplan@bristolairport.com
A draft letter is available at www.nobristolairportexpansion.co.uk

REMEMBER - YOU ONLY HAVE UNTIL 12TH DECEMBER 2005 TO MAKE YOUR VIEWS KNOWN TO THE AIRPORT.
Please copy bristolfoe@hotmail.co.uk on any comments you submit.

3. Go to www.nobristolairportexpansion.co.uk to:

* Download an A4 poster to display in your house window.
* Get a poster sent to you.
* Send a letter of objection to your MP.
* Get the dates of meetings organised by the Stop Bristol Airport Expansion coalition.
* Register your support and offer to help the campaign.

4. You can also leave a message on our answerphone at 0117 9420129.

5. Think twice about that cheap flight. The more cheap flights you take, the more you will be adding to global warming and destroying the environment of airport communities. How necessary is it, and is there an alternative that is better for the environment?

6. PLEASE SEND THIS EMAIL ON TO ANYONE YOU KNOW!
Please distribute it as widely as possible through work and voluntary organisation e-mail networks.

Thank-you for your help.
