Following reports on Sainsburys possible plans for expansion in the Gloucester Road/Ashley Down area, a spokesperson at Sainsburys Local on the Gloucester Road said 'It is news to us.' When asked if Sainsburys are liable to attract a different kind of customer from the current High Street style of the existing Gloucester Road, the spokesperson declined to comment. There is no doubt that the established Somerfield Stores, of which there are three on the Gloucester Road main drag, are the type of stores that the majority of residents in the area wish to shop at, though Sainsburys' reputation for quality may prove a big pull for mobile shoppers coming from the ever-expanding Westbury-on-Trym districts.
