Gloucestershire Floods - Gulf Stream Moves South - Energy Crisis By 2015

category gloucs | the environment | news report author Monday July 23, 2007 00:24author by random entry Report this post to the editors

Gloucestershire has flooded. 150,000 are without water as i write, another 200,000 may be about to lose their water supplies. 500,000 are at risk of losing electricity supplies.

I live in Bristol, and i've just finished filling up 35ltrs of stored water. I have fuel supplies normally for camping, but they'll do. I live just a few hundred yards from the Gloucestershire County border.

Keep an eye on the BBC website for updates:

The government have called a meeting of COBRA. Is this a full national emergency unfolding?

Gulf Stream Moves South

The reason I'm suddenly writing this is that i was already stunned to see what was happening, when I got a text from my younger brother saying the Gulf Stream has moved south!

It was from earlier in the day, and he'd gone to bed by the time i tried to confirm it, so i looked on the web, and here it is. The Gulf Stream does indeed appear to have moved south!

http://rads.tudelft.nl/gulfstream/gif/anim_2_last.gif

Is this a permanent or temporary shift?

For those who don't know the Gulf Stream originates from the Gulf of Mexico and keeps our temperatures a good 10c warmer than they would otherwise be. The Gulf Stream has been predicted to move south as a result of the billions of gallons of icy melt water from the north.

A permanent shift in the Gulf Stream will lead tempearatures to plummet.

It now appears to have occurred.

Pentagon tells Bush: Climate Change Will Destroy Us
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,6903,1153513,00.html

This is a timely moment to remind everyone, as well as the remaining handful of climate change deniers, of the leaked Pentagon report from early 2004, which predicts the shut down of the Gulf Stream by 2020.

"A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world."

Is there really any point in anyone any longer being a climate denier when all this now appears to be unfolding ahead of schedule? When even the great climate denier, the Pentagon, is now the 'environmental extremist' on this issue, why are we still wasting time debating when's and ifs?

Oil and gas may run short by 2015, say industry experts
http://environment.independent.co.uk/climate_change/article2790960.ece

And on the same day that Gloucestershire floods, that i hear news that the Gulf Stream has now moved south, it seems that the oil and gas industry are finally admitting to the reality of peak oil.

2015 is no time away at all.

Hardly any time to prepare.

Peak oil may too have occurred this year, not the 7-8 yrs ahead they are belatedly now admitting to.

"Humanity is approaching an unprecedented crisis when not enough oil and gas will be produced to keep industrial civilisation running, the world's top oilmen warned last week."

Why be a denier any longer?

What are we going to do?

How do we not waste any more time from now?
