We decided to put on muisc gigs around Bristol under the Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) banner, yet we are able to underpin this focus on music by establishing a Unite Against Facsim group in Bristol, in order to pull all the various strands on anti Nazi work in the city together.

In Bristol LMHR and UAF now have a functioning organising group who meet regularly to arrange events, protests and demos. The group is built on a broad base with representation from Students at both uni's and colleges, Trade unions most prominently the PCS, CWU and FBU with representation from the Bristol Trades Council, community groups, We have experience of promoting bands putting on festivals and community organisation with roots extending back to the Rock against racism and Anti Nazi League movements of the late 70's and early 80's.

Nationally the LMHR campaign is working with the Music mag NME, with the NUT and other teaching unions to put out a CD available in schools and to down load on your computer which aims to spread the message far and wide. It shows younger people that their heroes are not racist.

LMHR
Our music is living testimony to the fact that cultures can and do mix. It unites us and gives us strength, and offers a vibrant celebration of our multicultural and multiracial society. Racism seeks only to divide and weaken us. Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) was set up in 2002 in response to rising levels of racism and electoral successes for the Nazi British National Party (BNP).

We use the energy of our music scene to celebrate diversity and involve people in anti-racist and anti-fascist activity – as well as to urge people to vote against fascist candidates in elections. LMHR has helped to mobilise against further BNP election victories, in the tradition of the Rock Against Racism (RAR) movement of the late 1970s.

There have been now been over 400 LMHR events, from large outdoor festivals to local gigs and club nights. Top artists who’ve performed at LMHR events include Ms Dynamite, Hard -Fi, Babyshambles, Akala, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Estelle, The View, Lethal Bizzle, Roll Deep and Basement Jaxx. Just as important are the up-and-coming bands, DJs, MCs and their fans who have performed at or organised their own local LMHR nights.

We want to create a national movement against racism and fascism through music, so it’s vital everyone gets involved however they can.

"we aim to put on gigs about every 6 weeks, really building to a big gig in Bristol which will publicize and support the huge LMHR carnival commemerating 30 years of anti racist activity, from the first ANL carnival to the present day. Once again we will take over the streets of London to spread the Message anti rascim of Hope, Not Hate.

"It is really inportant to have the double strand of the political campiagn against all Fascist activity and to use the music as a way of spreading that message to all of the people in our diverse community."

"LMHR through UAF spans the decades it, links us to the movements of the 70's and 80's and reminds us that though racism is never goes entirely the rythem and beat is always against it"
