What a nice Easter present from the shysters at the Avon and Somerset Police Authority. As of Thursday poison is all that awaits those who trust Avon and Somerset police. Moira Hamblin and Colin Port have set up the most bloodthirsty PPP ever dreamed of in the UK and they even seem proud of their disgusting deeds. They will no doubt soon be heading into the shadows to evade prosecution for, at the very least, malfeasance, that is misconduct in public office, for allowing the engineers that provided the equipment used by the gestapo to round up Hitler's enemies to take over Avon and Somerset police. These evil idiots should be run out of town.

I know a couple of ways the police can cut costs within the local area. Stop ordering food from local take aways during their busy shifts. I witnessed 1 police officer stood in KFC, while their colleague spoke through their walkie talkies to confirm what they wanted. They could also save man power by not wasting time asking us to move our safely parked cars to areas which cause obstruction to other road users, however ignoring other people who do exactly the same thing. If they saved time looking for petty crimes and dealt with more serious crimes then I'm sure money could be saved.

POLICE IN NEW BID TO CUT COSTS

Avon and Somerset police have formally joined a cost-cutting scheme involving computer giant IBM.

The force announced last night that it had signed a £185 million deal to join the Southwest One shared services organisation for 10 years as a founding member, along with Somerset County Council, Taunton Deane Borough Council and IBM.

The Evening Post reported in January that Avon Police Authority had committed to the public-private partnership and yesterday's announcement means the force's financial services, human resources, information technology, estates, facilities management and procurement as well as inquiry offices will transfer to Southwest One.

But the 600 civilian staff who work in these areas will remain police employees and retain their existing terms and conditions, as well as their local government pension scheme entitlement.

The venture will not affect frontline policing or the way 999 calls are answered.

The first wave of police staff to transfer to Southwest One is expected in June, when IT staff will switch over. The rest will follow a month later.

Avon and Somerset Chief Constable (and aider of Loyalist death squads) Colin Port said: "It's imperative we deliver services that represent value for money for council-tax payers locally and this joint venture gives us the chance to reinvest in frontline policing and secure the employment of our dedicated police staff."

Dr (Jeckyll) Moira Hamlin, Chair of the Avon and Somerset Police Authority, said: "It's the first time any UK police service has joined such a strategic venture. We're taking this innovative step as we believe it can deliver demonstrable benefits."

She added: "Police authorities up and down the country are faced with the dilemma of improving police support services in the face of budget shortfalls."

The scheme was born out of the Improving Services in Somerset (ISiS) project.
