Volunteer Opportunity: Accompaniment Training Coordinator for Espacio Bristol-Colombia

category bristol | globalisation | announcement author Wednesday April 09, 2008 15:22author by espacio - Espacio Bristol-Colombia Report this post to the editors

Following on from our first successful accompaniment training which we held in February, Espacio Bristol have decided to have another accompaniment training on the 19th and 20th July.

We are looking for someone who would like to coordinate the preparation and running of this weekend training

The role will include:

* Promoting the event and accompaniment training in general
* Organising logistics – venue, food, accommodation,
* Managing the budget

Based on our experience of organising such an event we anticipate that it would take 1-2 hours a week initially when organizing publicity and venue, then around 1/2 hour a week keeping tabs on who's coming, until July when it might need a bit more time to sort food etc.

Skills we think you'd need:

* Ability to organise yourself
* Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
* Basic IT skills, particularly email
* Ability to keep a track of income and expenses

Appropriate support will be offered by an Espacio member. You do not need to have prior knowledge of Colombia nor experience of event organising, just desire to commit some time to supporting Colombian communities and organisations in their struggle for peace with social justice.

Even if you don't have to want to take part in the training yourself, though you are very welcome to, this short term volunteer role will have a significant impact on the ground in Colombia where international accompaniment can be the difference between life and death.

If you are interested, please send us a short piece outlining relevant skills, experience and why you would like to do this (no need for more than 100 words). email it to espaciobristol@redcolombia.org
