![]() A Journey of Imagination to the Horn of Africa. Bristol’s Somali community invites you to share highlights of their unique culture in an evening of traditional story-telling. Stories are a vital part of Somali culture. The language was only written down in the 1970’s – so oral traditions are crucial to cultural continuity. But story-telling is also about spell-binding performance!
This is a rare chance to enjoy the riches of a culture still steeped in the old ways. The evening is free, and open to everyone. Booking is advisable – so just ring 0117 924 4512. It starts at 7.30pm on Friday 20th June at the Pierian Centre, 27 Portland Square, St Pauls, Bristol BS2 8SA. The Celebrating Sanctuary art exhibition is running all week – so if you come early you’ll have a chance to enjoy an amazing display of work by or about refugees and asylum seekers. This event is part of Bristol’s wider Refugee Week – details on www.bristolrefugeeweek. Information on the Pierian Centre’s programme of events is at www.celebratingsanctuary.co.uk |
