This might not be the most exciting hour of your life but it could help you have a real impact on what is going on around you in your city.

Broadwalk Shopping Centre - how about some more flats?

This might not be the most exciting hour of your life but it could help you have a real impact on what is going on around you in your city.
It’s all about council plans to let the developers carry their seemingly unstoppable desire to turn Bristol [‘A UK Green Capital’?!] into a building site with no green spaces – this time in and around Broadwalk Shopping Centre.
I have already objected to the proposal to build 45 new flats in what is currently the car park at the shopping centre. With 45 more residents and their families, and less space for shoppers and their cars, the resulting development could cause even more gridlock on this busy route into the city. I know some development is essential/inevitable but this - like others - seems a tad short sighted. Not very ‘Green Capital’ is it? Why not create some green space for the local community instead?
The Development Committee will meet at 2pm on Wednesday 2nd July at ‘a committee room’ in the Council House.
The application number is: 07/05426/F
The proposal is: Part demolition of existing multi-story care park and erection of part two, part three residential development (45 units) and provision of access cores, refuse, cycle parking and the car parking areas.

An adapted sign next to Broadwalk Shopping Centre. With MORE flats planned here, Bristol's claim to be one of the UK's Green Capitals looks a bit hollow.
