boy killed by cold blooded cop murderer on saturday 5 dec 08
http://athens.indymedia.org/ this is the link in the greek indymedia page.... it is the cental
page theme now.
In the middle of Athens , there is a pedestrian street full of caffes and bars that is
usually crowded with people.
It is well known that the specific district of athens is one of the most leftish ones, and is
usually full of anarchists.
The past night 2 policemen thought that it was a nice idea to go walk through that road as
a part of their patrol.
As we can all understand this was a provoking-harrasment movement.
There obviously was some swearing against the police coming from the people that were
sitting on those caffes and the the result was that one of them took out his gun and shot
3 bullets.
1 of these it a 15yr old boy in the chest at the point of his heart and he died on the spot.
As soon as the police heard the people shouting that the boy is not breathing they left the
site.
The kid was taken to the hospital but he was allready dead.
The policemen say that they were attacked with stones and molotov bombs , wich is a lie
because as we all know, when we go out for a drink at a bar we usually do not carry
stones or molotovs on us.
the also claim that they did not shoot AT the boy , but that the bullet was deviated by
hitting on a wall or something and it ended up killing the boy.
We can all understand this cannot be true either.
As i am typing there are riots in the middle of athens , with fires lit up in the central
streets and it is quite possible that this might lead to the occupation of one of the
universities buildings.
We are trying to make this fact as known as possible , because as we can all understand
is one of the most tragical things ever happened.... being killed by a CLOD BLOODED
police murderer while having a beer.
Also , i would like an e-mail adress so that i can directly - and massively send any news
and information about this case or others to all diffrent indymedia sites.
-it is a little bit difficult visiting them one by one and posting messages-
Thank you very much
Obviously a terrible thing to happen, it's hard to imagine what caused this.
What is the area like and why would a cop patrol be seen as provocation?
The police's attempt at an early cover-up reminds me of the Carlo Giuliani case. Those fuckers tried to say that they didn't shoot at Carlo, (despite photographic evidence to the contrary) and even had the gall to say that a stone thrown by a protester deflected the bullet which killed him.
Some solid facts about this 15 year olds murder and the events leading up to it would be useful at this stage.
Background reports on the murder of the unarmed 15 year old youth, and latest resistance to police & state terror in Greece can be found here http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/12/414473.html and here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/default.stm
Meanwhile today, 7 December, saw further protests against the cops with riots in Athens and across Greece. A comment here on UK Indymedia suggests cops have now entered the Polytechnic in Athens (which they are forbidden by law from doing so) and are firing rubber bullets, although resistance remains strong. See http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/12/414473.html?c=on...09003. Its believed the Greek embassy in London was due to be picketed today as well, following recent activity outside it during the prison unrest.
The murder of yet another Greek citizen by their cops is not surprising, and neither is the outraged response. Greece has been very tense over the last month or so. Refugees and migrants have been demanding justice and rights and an end to police harassment, with protests in Athens and Crete, where a number of migrants remain on hungerstrike. At the same time Greece has just experienced a massive wave of unrest in its 21 prisons throughout the month of November, which also saw of course protests on the 25th anniversary of the Colonels Coup. Nearly all of Greece’s 13500 prisoners took action to demand better conditions and justice for prisoners, with some 7000 joining a hungerstrike. Outside the prisons solidarity actions took place daily, from pickets and noise demos to sabotage and attacks on the state
Info on the Greek prison resistance can be read about in the latest issue of Active Solidarity from Brighton ABC at http://www.brightonabc.org.uk/texts/activesolidarity/ac...8.pdf. You can get a paper copy of Active Solidarity from Bristol ABC any time the Kebele social centre is open (ie Saturday lunchtimes, Sunday evening, Wednesday & Thursday daytimes). Today the 9th of December the police have made their way around the cemetary of the recently assasinated Alexandros at his funeral.
Today they did not even had the decency to abstain of their presence. Riot squads and a helicopter has accompanied the murdered into his last journey. This has sparked furhter riots around the cemetary with groups of protesters clashing with them and moving back towards the city centre.
The post mortem examination of the body is now suggesting that the bullet that killed alexandros is a ricochet one!
They are awaiting further ballistics.Note: The investigations are happening in the police labs.
to the viewers of indymedia please just note that all police instigated murders in Greece are found to be either by ricochet or guns that slipped from hands and accidentaly went off.
The previous 16 year old mixalis kaltezas that was killed by policeman Melistas from a bullet in the back of the head was also officialy killed by "ricochet".
This is our democracy. This is Greece. Where are you?
Assuming the linked information of a "verbal argument" and a policemen showing his genitals to Alexandros Grigoropoulos before shooting him are true I'd like to know why more detailed statements from the witnesses are still not available.
That precise information is not yet online inhibits our ability to react quickly and in an informed manner. The technology is readily available to instantly let the entire world know exactly what happened, to miss another opportunity over something as important as this is pretty poor.
Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough. If someone has found a detailed statement online could they please post a link?
Regardless of what happened 15 year old kids should not be getting murdered by police in this day and age. It doesn't matter what the area is like or what the politics are, trained adult "professionals" should have more restraint.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.
