The lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people have been transformed in the past 40 years. At present it is hard to imagine that these gains could be reversed.

This meeing will consider the ways in which the oppression of LGBT people continues, and what the struggles of the past tell us about the most effective ways of fighting this oppression.

In a period of growing devastation wreaked on jobs, work conditions, and housing by economic recession, there also remains the on-going temptation for the Government and the right-wing media to deflect anger by scape-goating minoiries. This in itself demonstrates how fragile some of the gains made can turn out to be, and why we must be ready to respond effectively.
