We are campaigning against the construction of half a dozen large urban extensions (and the new roads that will go with them)to the city which will wipe out countryside to the South West and East of the City. Ridiculously high housing targets imposed by the Government's Regional Spatial Strategy have been imposed on local councils who have opposed the targets.

The first urban extension of 10,000 houses (Ashton Park) is proposed for the countryside to the West of the city adjoining Highridge/Bishopsworth and Ashton Vale and developers will be aiming to apply for outline planning permission for all 10,000 houses this year as they have already purchased/negotiated for the bulk of the land. For details go to the developer's website at http://www.ashton-park.co.uk.

The Architecture Centre is hosting an exhibition about the Ashton park proposals - the last day is 7th March.Groups are opposing the extensions for a whole range of reasons -
destruction of farmland, loss of local countryside, traffic impacts of the new roads and extra traffic, creation of more car dormitories because of lack of integrated and funded transport and employment plans for sites, the planning nightmare of having a little bit of North Somerset tacked onto the city, developers preferring to build in the Greenbelt rather than tackle more difficult brownfield sites in more deprived areas where regneration is urgently needed. For full details of all the proposed new development proposed go to http://www.cpreavonside.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/cpre-...p.pdf Please turn up in support.Bring banners and placards if you are involved in a group. Children welcome. It's their Greenbelt/countryside too.
