Books Not Bombs

Books not bombs - protest against Exeter uni's investment in the arms trade - Thursday 19 March, 12.30pm, meet outside Tremough library, Cornwall Campus in Penryn - bring banners, your friends or just yourself :)

Recently several universities across the UK have been targeted by student-led campaigns aimed at divesting their university's shares in the arms trade. Many of them have been successful. Exeter uni have shares in Rolls-Royce, a leading arms manufacturer who make nuclear engines for Trident missile defence system, and in Smiths group, who have sold fighter jets to Israel. This is goes against the university's ethical policy,

The UK arms industry exports billions of pounds worth of weapons every year, many of these to regimes with poor human rights records, to areas of conflict or to countries with huge development needs. The arms trade fuels war, undermines development and breeds corruption and is far from an ordinary, everyday business. It is inappropriate for an educational institution run for the public good to have any links to the arms trade.
