Welcome to the 16th Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride and Fun day. As Britain's first Cycling City, Bristol is proud to host this free family event run by Bristol City Council to celebrate the end of Bike Week (13th - 21st June 2009).
This year's event will be bigger and better and not just for people on bikes!

Bring your bike to take part in one of the rides. There are five bike rides to choose from, ranging from 9 to 38 miles, all starting from Millennium Square and heading towards a traffic free Portway, as well as venturing into the beautiful countryside beyond. All rides finish at the Harbourside where you can join in the fun, collect your ride certificate, meet up with others and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

FREE cycle parking will be provided and staffed between 11.00am to 7.00pm - please bring a bike lock.

If you don't have access to a bicycle, or don't ride a bike, come along and join in the fun at Bristol's Biggest Fun day. There will be entertainment for all the family from 11.00am to 6.00pm; music, stalls, bike displays, demonstrations, cycling information and advice and lots more.

As part of the bike ride there will be a Business Challenge for employees, and school pupils can cycle to help win prizes for their school in the Schools' Competition. You will also have the opportunity or raise money for your favourite charity or support the Lord Mayor's Appeal for Children.

It's a great day out for cyclists of all ages and abilities, and Guide2Bristol are happy to be supporting it. There are five bike rides to choose from, ranging from 9 to 38 miles, all starting from Millennium Square and heading towards a traffic free Portway, as well as venturing into the beautiful countryside beyond. We will be going the whole 38 miles, and hoping to see plenty of friends on the route!

There will be four of us riding on the day, Bernie, Phil, Rudy and Anthony. You'll be able to spot us wearing our official Guide2Bristol team jerseys, so please give us a wave if you do. We're awaiting delivery of the jerseys from amazing kit manufacturers Owayo any day now, but for the time being take a look at the image to see how fancy we'll look.

To celebrate the ride we'll be giving away three jerseys, worth £50 each. Don't worry, they don't all have ‘Rudy' on the sleeve, that's just the mock-up. However, they all are manufactured in Germany with the highest quality performance fabrics. They're guaranteed by us to draw admiring glances from all and sundry as you cycle round town, or hydrate yourself with a pint of cider.

To be in with a chance of winning one of the jerseys on offer, simply leave a comment, telling us something that you love or something that you hate about cycling in Bristol, or wherever you live. If you tickle our fancy, you'll win a shirt - it's a simple as that! Make sure to tell us whether you are a Medium, Large or X-Large too - the size chart is here. We'll pick our winners and notify you on Monday the 22nd of June.

Good luck!

I have always loved cycling but on Christmas Eve in 2008 I fell off my bike, breaking left hand shoulder blade, collar bone and lots of ribs. I also managed to fracture my skull and break bits inside. As a result , with no balance centre on my left or vestibular nerve I was told it was going to be hard to learn to walk in a straight line again and very unlikely I will ever ride a bike.

But being a Yorkshire man and stubborn I have defied the doctors and with determination learnt how to ride a bike all over again. Well now 6 months on, I am back to full fitness and on my race bike. Up to 80-100 miles a week and looking good. I can even hit over 35 mph down the hills.

Going to do the Bristol Bike Ride on Sunday just for fun.

Having beaten my problems I love cycling even more than ever.

2009 is the year I have rediscovered cycling having given it up in my teens, (don't ask how long ago). I bought a bike last year and I've been cycling a few miles to and from work each day but in Jan 2009 I got involved with the Get Gorge-ous challenge run by 3 fantastic ladies. They took us out each weekend on longer and longer rides and on June 13th eighty of us cycled from Bristol to Cheddar, up the gorge and back to Bristol and we were all very proud of our achievement.

I completed the 38 mile ride today with my brother and I think I saw you guys whizz past me on the Portway.

I'm hooked on cycling now and my brother and I were already planning our next ride today.
