BNP: Not in My Name

category south west | local government | news report author Tuesday June 23, 2009 06:59author by antiBNP Report this post to the editors

Sign the petition to tell the far-right they don't represent us at all...

The BNP did not win anything in Bristol or the South West, but did win 2 seats as MEPs in the north. This was far, far less than the 5 seats they were hoping for - but still 2 too many. However the actual number of votes cast for the fascists was LESS than the 2004 elections, just that so many voters stayed away that they won a greater percentage of the vote. Now a petition has been launched to tell them that with dwindling support, they don't represent us at all...

There is also a petition "Not in my name; the BNP have won seats in the European Parliament - but they do not represent Britain"; it is for people to register their opposition to the BNP. See the petition at:
http://action.hopenothate.org.uk/page/s/notinmyname

The petition will be handed in to the European Parliament on the day Nick Griffin and Andrew Brons take their seats.

The European Parliament reconvenes with the new MEPs on 14 July.

On Wednesday the 1st July 2009 UAF in Bristol are holding a Public Meeting to coordinate the next phase of the fight against the BNP.

All those who have been involved in the campaign or who would like to be are invited.

The meeting starts at 7.15 pm in Transport House, Victoria St, BS1

...can someone from the UAF explain a real problem that I'm having with their attitude against the BNP.

I should start off by saying I DO NOT in any way shape or form support the BNP. I don't find them grossly offensive, I just (like most people I hope) think they're absolutely ridiculous, with absurd policies, and poorly-disguised racsim.

But in protesting against the BNP, UAF are trying to silence them - in effect, they are saying that they don't agree with the BNP having a platform to speak freely from (i.e. free speech).

Often when this is pointed out to the UAF their response is that they can't agree with the BNP having this platform because it's views are bigoted and/or racist.

That may be true, but the fact still remains that they are saying they support Free Speech, unless they disagree with the content, in which case they think it should be silenced. So they believe they, the UAF, should be able to censor who can and can't make their views known (racist or not) to the public. It can also be assumed that they don't trust the public to make their own decision about what they do and don't listen to/pay attention to.

Isn't that a bit...well, um....fascist? Whoops!

And what ever happened to "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it"?

You are completely correct, when you ban 1 person for their views than you are banning all views that are not the governments. The net is closing in as we speak with cyber security bills that are just to ban anti-government views as we move into a age i never thought i would see in this great land.

We are heading towards a holocaust. If you look at history and the Nazi's we are heading swiftly in the same direction with very similar laws etc etc.

What's that quote, oh yeh 'he who ignores history, is doomed to repeat it'

You are also right, if you check wikipedia and look at the description of fascism it is our present government!

I thought us brits were the cream of the crop, but im starting to realise that people like being pack animals now and cant make their own minds up about things, just stick with the mass media view.

God help us all.
