Support political prisoners and the EDO defendants

solidarity is our weapon

Bristol ABC Prisoner support group invite you to a joint night of solidarity letter-writing with the EDO Defendants support campaign.

Come along, meet an EDO defendant and some of their campaign supporters, find out more about their action and the ongoing legal battle, and get
involved in supporting them.

Although 1 of the 2 defendants on remand is now out on very restrictive bail, at the time of writing 1 other defendant remains on remand at Horfield prison, nearly 6 months are being arrested. Innocent until proven guilty? Not in the UK prison society!

So come down and write a letter to Elija James Smith at Horfield prison. Come and send letters filled with rage to the EDO arms manufacturers and
all who profit from wars, and send letters to the politicans who casually order the purchase of weapons and the subsequent death of many innocents,
and the arrest of those who oppose them.

Bristol ABC will be on hand with help on writing to prisoners in this case, and others, and there are plenty of other political prisoners in the UK, Europe and further afield.

All welcome, hot drinks & cake available to keep you going. And if James should happen to have been released on bail by then, then it'll be a bit of a celebration too!

8 July from 7pm to 9pm, at kebele social centre, 14 Robertson Rd, Bristol BS5 6JY

11,000 people are imprisoned simply for being Palestinian.

The Siege of Palestine is not simply the physical blockade against Gaza. The Siege includes the hundreds of checkpoints throughout the West Bank that separate families and communities and shatter any prospect for a viable Palestinian state. The Siege includes the millions of Palestinians in Diaspora, many of them dumped in squalid refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon and elsewhere. The Siege is ever-present throughout all aspects of Palestinian life.

The Free Gaza Movement is calling for people to "adopt" a Palestinian prisoner asking you to learn about the crisis and take on the cause of an individual prisoner as your own.

Break the Siege! Reach out to Palestine!

Palestinian prisoners from the Occupied Territories, many of whom are under the age of 18, are tried under military courts and are often convicted on secret evidence and serve disproportionately long sentences. In addition, the Army is allowed to arbitrarily arrest and detain Palestinian civilians for periods of six months. After this six month period has passed, the sentence can be extended without explanation. These types of loose guidelines allow for the Israeli army to exercise broad and unchecked powers against the Palestinian population.
