![]() As part of celebrating the 50 year anniversary of the Cuban Revolution this year Cuba Solidarity Campaign organised a tour of Cuban films - see www.Cuba50.org. The local showing for Bristol/Bath is'Mauricio's Diary', director Manuel Perez 2006, at The Little Theatre Cinema, St Michaels Place, Bath BA1 1SF on 8th Oct at 10.30am and 8.20pm. This is a particularly interesting film set against the background of the 'special period' and the real-life difficulties Cuban people faced. A complex but moving story emerges from Mauricio's 60th birthday. Two incidents - a visit from his ex-wife and the news of a friend's heart attack - lead Mauricio to examine the last 10 years of his life. A time referred to as the 'special period', when Cubans struggled with the effects of the collapse of the Soviet Union, is the background for Mauricio's own personal struggle. Balanced performances from a talented cast make this film both compelling and informative. |
