Bristols very own bonfire 'Guy' will be .......

category bristol | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday November 04, 2009 16:01author by Guido Fawkes is back. - Bristol Bonfire Society Report this post to the editors

Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night is an annual celebration on the evening of 5 November. It marks the downfall of the Gunpowder Plot of 5 November 1605, in which a number of Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament, in London, United Kingdom.

We need 'Bristol Guy / Effigy suggestions urgently!

Bonfire night is primarily marked in the United Kingdom where it was compulsory, by fiat, until 1859, to celebrate the deliverance of the King of Great Britain; but, it is also celebrated in former British colonies including New Zealand, Newfoundland, and parts of the British Caribbean.

In other parts of the country effigies are burned instead of 'Guys' (Guido Fawkes) for example a twin effigy of Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand will be set on fire as part of a Kent bonfire society's Guy Fawkes celebrations.

The celebrity guy depicts Ross clutching a BBC contract in his right hand and holding a dog with Brand's head under his left arm.

A huge effigy of glamour model Katie Price is to be set on fire as part of a Kent bonfire society's celebrations to mark Guy Fawkes night.

The 30ft (9.1m) celebrity guy depicts Price, also known as Jordan, holding the heads of her former husband Peter Andre and current boyfriend Alex Reid.

The effigy will be burnt by the Edenbridge Bonfire Society on Saturday.

Last year's celebrity guy was Cherie Blair.

Other past effigies have included racing pundit John McCririck, Saddam Hussein and politicians John Prescott and Edwina Currie.

Not much time left but we are looking for ideas for Bristol Guys to be burnt this weekend, so far the right hon. Dawn Primarolo, and Andy Wright of the Western Daily Press have had their names put forward.

Which Bristol 'name' or face would you most like to see burnt in effigy? ........... A politician? ........... A capitalist? ............. let us know who you think should go up in smoke?
