300 staff are being made redundant in Bristol

The Communication Workers Union today (Wednesday) is shocked at the announcement that 300 staff are being made redundant in Bristol . The customer services call centre workers have been given a 90 day notice period from today. The call centre was closed for the rest of the day after the announcement left many staff in tears.

Andy Kerr , CWU deputy general secretary, said: “ Orange has briefed staff in Bristol today confirming that it will be closing the Keypoint centre. Many of the staff will be moving to other sites but unfortunately Orange will not be retaining the call centre so up to 300 people will be made redundant.

“It’s a sad day for the hardworking and loyal call centre staff at Orange in Bristol . After struggling into work through the snow today, news that they will lose their jobs is an extra bitter blow.

“While we’ve been bracing ourselves for details of job losses since the announcement of the merger with T-Mobile, today’s announcement of job losses is a bombshell for staff in Bristol . Staff told us that there were many tears after the announcement and managers decided to send staff home for the rest of the day.

“We are in close contact with Orange and hope to minimise the impact these job losses will have on workers by exploring redeployment or retraining to enable staff to take up other roles in Bristol and other options as fully as possible.”

Orange has said that the job losses are not related to the merger with T-Mobile.
