Di Canio to be Robins manager?

West Country football has taken something of a batterin' recently, with Bristol Rovers, Plymouth Argyle and Swindon Town, all being relegated down to the basement division (League Two) in one fell swoop. A fairly typical reaction to relegation by a clubs bigwigs is to replace the manager. However it seems that Swindon Town (The Robins) are taking an extreme approach to manager selection, by possibly offering the job to one of the football worlds best known lunatics, Paolo Di Canio.

For those that aren't interested in the beautiful game (although this ain't exactly a very good advert for it), Paolo Di Canio is an Italian footballer with known fascist tendencies, who after playing for a number of Italian clubs moved to Scotland to spend a brief stint at (bizarrely) Celtic, before moving down to England playing at Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham United and Charlton Athletic, eventually returning to Italy to play for Lazio (for the second time in his career). It was while playing at Lazio that he gave the fascist salute, during two seperate matchs, to the Lazio home fans. After being fined for his behaviour (basically a slap on the wrist) he remained unrepentant, publically declaring himself a fascista (I shit you not).

The BBC is reporting that Di Canio is currently one of eight potential candidates for the Swindon managerial job, which Swindon chairman, Jeremy Wray, is about to engage in talks with.

A concerted campaign to persuade Swindon Town that Di Canio is not the 'way to go' is therefore reaching urgency.

Sympathies currently go out to all Swindon Town fans, even from Gasheads, as no one deserves to have fascist twats meddlin' in their football club.

No fascists in West Country football.
