A wrap of recent No Borders activity

The continued persection of innocent families by the UK Border Agency has been highlighted by a recent youtube video showing the Saleh family being taken from their home in South Wales a couple of weeks ago. The distress caused to asylum-seekers by the ever present threat of deportation is evident in this account of the Saleh family's travails, written in the aftermath of their forcible removal.

In the same month, more awful news: a Ghanaian man, Prince Ofusu, died in Harmandsworth Immigration Removal Center. Disturbing details have emerged concerning injuries sustained by Mr Ofusu as he was restrained by GEO officers shortly before he collapsed and died. This is the seventh death of a detainee in Harmondsworth IRC and brings to 17 the total number of deaths in the UK Detention estate. A noise demo was held outside Harmandsworth IRC to protest the death of Prince Ofusu.

This Thursday 8th November there is a day of action against the children's charity, Barnado's, who run what is euphemistically called `pre-departure accomodation'. In other words, they detain families prior to deportation. The linked article outlines a number of ways that you can put pressure on Barnado's to change their ways.

A final footnote: There have been a number of articles on this newswire connected to the video above of the eviction of the Saleh family. People from the punk scene in South Wales have expressed anger that one of the attending UKBA officers is a singer in the band Solutions. We have hidden these articles because many of them contain unfounded allegations against other people in the South Wales punk scene.
