Frack Free Somerset are pleased to announce the amazing array of community action taking place across the county. Below are a list of events happening in February, to view them in chronological order click here.

PUBLIC MEETINGS

These meetings are an opportunity to hear a presentation about fracking and other unconventional gas developments, the science, bigger picture and the impacts experienced by communities in North America and Australia. It is your chance to ask questions and understand the threats to your community. 

Thursday 7th: Public meeting in Midsomer Norton at the Town Hall, 7 - 9pm | With speakers from the Town Council, Frack Off and Frack Free Somerset

Monday 11th: Public Meeting in Chew Magna at the Millennium Village Hall, 7 - 9pm

Wednesday 13th: Public Meeting in Shepton Mallet at the Mendip District Council Chambers, 7 - 9pm | With speakers from Transition Shepton, Frack Off and Frack Free Somerset

Tuesday 19th: Public meeting in Backwell at Backwell School,  7 - 9pm | Organised by Sustainable Backwell and Frack Free Somerset

Wednesday 20th: Public meeting in Radstock at the Working Men's Club,  7 - 9pm | Organised by Frack Free Somerset with support from Radstock Action Group

 Thursday 28th: Public meeting in Blagdon at Blagdon Village Hall 7 - 9pm

FILM SHOWINGS & AWARENESS RAISING EVENINGS

These evenings are an opportunity to watch Gasland (link to trailer) a film showing the impacts of fracking on communities in the United States. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and talk to members of Frack Free Somerset about your concerns as well as ways to get involved.

Tuesday 5th: Gasland Film Showing at 7:30pm at the Works Canteen, Frome, BA11 3BG | Organised by Frome Anti Fracking

Thursday 14th: Gasland Film Showing in Keynsham, Venue @67 at 7pm | Organised by Transition Keynsham

Monday 18th: Gasland Film Showing | Bradford on Avon at Quaker Meeting House, Whitehead Lane 7.30 p.m| Organised by Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon with support from Frack Free Somerset

Friday 22nd: Films & awareness at the Key Centre, Frome 7:30 - 9pm | Organised by Frome Anti Fracking

Monday 25th: Films & awareness at the Methodist Church in Peasdown St John | Organised by Frome Anti Fracking

Saturday 2nd: Acoustic Anarcho Punk with Jay from the Inner Terrestrials, acoustic pop punk with Lou from Caves and Olive Anne, folk punk from South Wales | Taking place at the Kebele, 14 Robertson Road, Bristol | 8pm | £5 waged, £3 unwaged suggested donation

Saturday 2nd March: Benefit Gig plus films with Gringo Ska plus support, £5 | Westway Cinema, Frome | Organised by Frome Anti Fracking

Saturday 2nd: Community Resistance to Extreme Energy Workshop | 2 - 6pm at the Kebele, 14 Robertson Road, Bristol | The workshop will look at what ‘extreme energy’ is and place these developments in context of the bigger picture before looking at models of resistance around the world, including examples from the Lock the Gate & Coal Seam Gas Free Communities in Australia. Saturday 9th: Frack Free Somerset Stall at Backwell Fairtrade Cafe | Backwell Parish Hall  10.15-12.15 | With Sustainable Backwell

Saturday 16th: Community Action Training | Kebele, 14 Robertson Road, Bristol Bristol at 1.30pm | Civil disobedience has been an important part of resisting extreme energy developments around the world. Learn a variety of techniques for blockades and lock-ons, and how to work together to stay safe on an action | Please email bristol@risingtide.org.uk if you are going so that we have an idea of numbers | Organised by Bristol Rising Tide with support from Frack Free Somerset

Sunday 17th: Extreme Energy workshop with Paul Mobbs/The Free Range Network | Time & venue to be confirmed. | This in-depth workshop will be useful for anyone who wants to know more about fracking and extreme energy, looking at the science and the bigger picture | Please email info@frackfreesomerset.org if you are interested so we can arrange it for the most convenient location | £5-10 donation

Friday 22nd - Sunday 24th: Earth First Winter Moot in Lancashire | Members from Frack Free Somerset will be attending to meet others organising against fracking and environmental destruction around UK | Please email info@frackfreesomerset.org if you are interested in sharing transport | For more information about the gathering click here
