Defend Syria and Iran...

Join the axis of resistance!

7.30pm on Friday 1 March 2013

Freedom Room, Hamilton House, Stokes Croft, Bristol

The same capitalist crisis which is tearing up jobs, eroding pensions and demolishingthe welfare state is also driving our rulers into one criminal war after another, in a desperateattempt to hang on to its right to dominate all markets, loot all resources andleech off the unpaid labour of all workers.

For two years now, independent Syria has been under assault in what is effectively awar of intervention, albeit waged by terrorist proxies on behalf of their imperialist masters. The aim of the war is to oust the country’s progressive leadership and plant in itsplace a puppet government answerable to the West, dragging Syria away from her chosenanti-imperialist path and clearing the way for open war against Iran.

President Assad and his coalition government, led by the Ba’ath socialist party, hasthroughout sought a political resolution of the conflict, only to see one peace initiativeafter another sabotaged, as the West encourages its hirelings to commit outrage uponoutrage. Yet through it all the Syrian government, army and people have stood defiant.

They must not stand alone. Iran has hailed the development of an “axis of resistance”.That axis should include the British working class.
