![]() Open Meeting Fightback against Austerity Monday 4th March 7 for 7.30pm at Tony Benn House Victoria St., Bristol BS1 6AY The meeting will launch the booklet 'Trade Unions and the Fight against Austerity' with foreword by John McDonnell MP. Speakers include, Anne Lemon (NUT National Executive) Kathy Taylor (Unite Bristol Health) and representatives from the CWU and PCS who will report on local disputes with the aim of setting up a joint union organising group for South West Regional Unite the Resistance Conference. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are a group of trade unionists in Bristol and the South West who want to fight back. We want to see trade unions in the Bristol area organising to resist austerity. We look to the victory of rank-and-file electricians against construction bosses’ attempts to slash pay as an example of how a strong, determined fight can win, and we take inspiration from this.If you agree that we shouldn’t be made to pay for a crisis we didn’t create, and if you want to see the unions leading a real fight against austerity, then you should get involved. Together, let’s Unite the Resistance in Bristol. Other campaign groups such as UK Uncut and Occupy, and community-based anti-cuts groups such as Bristol and District Anti Cuts Alliance (BADACA), are also vital strands of the movement against austerity. We support the work of these groups and don’t wish to displace them or duplicate their work. The key difference between these groups and Unite the Resistance is the emphasis on the trade union movement. We believe that the 2.5 million-strong strike of 30th November had the potential to win. We aim to bring together all those who want to see more action like the 30th November strikes. We want to create a network of trade union activists who work together to push for more action in the unions, and give confidence to workers to fight back against austerity. We absolutely welcome and encourage any actions by other groups that help towards that end, and we want to work together with all those who agree that strike action can help us stop the cuts and stop austerity. http://www.facebook.com/groups/445004475540819/ http://bristolunitetheresistance.wordpress.com/
