How do we win liberation?

International Womens' Day was born out of struggle over 100 years ago. Socialists in Europe, inspired by the victory of women textile workers who went on strike for better pay and conditions in New York, chose to celebrate International (Working) Womenns Day on its anniversary.

But womens' oppression is still a reality today. Women are paid less than men, are blamed for rape, bodies are commodified and judged and only 22 per cent of MPs are women. And the attacks are continuing. Sexism on our university campuses is mainstream and the Tories want to turn back the clock on abortion rights and are slashing our pay, pensions and services.

These attacks are not going unchallenged. From Egypt to Greece, India to Britain, women have played aleading role in the fightback against sexual violence, for abortion rights, and in defence of our public services. Come to this event to celbrate International Womens' Day and dsicuss the socialist tradition of fighting for womens' liberation.

Introduced by Sally Campbell (author of A Rebel's Guide to Rosa Luxemburg) and Sinead Kennedy, leading campaigner from Ireland in the 'X Case' campaign for abortion rights.
