Banks and bankers eh, what a lot of wankers. And very rich ones too, you wont find many of them scrabbling about on the dole, struggling to pay their mortgage and feed the kids, and with their pension now worthless. You wont see them at any of Bristol’s homeless shelters or soup kitchens. Well not yet anyway, but do we have plans for them! read full story / add a comment

In October, five Latin American cleaners were unfairly dismissed by the company responsible for the cleaning at the National Physical Laboratory. Their sacking was a clear retaliation to their attempts at organising, receiving union recognition, and protesting the measures by which Amey has, since taking over the contract in 2006, been lowering their standards. Among the acts of intimidation carried out by Amey, there was a migration raid at NPL that resulted in seven dismissals and three deportations. There will be transport provided from bristol. read full story / add a comment

Today, Bristol University Students have been invited to a Engineering and IT Careers Fair. However, a brief look at the lists of companies and what they do to make their money, makes it seems like a list of who's who of environmentally and socially destructive companies.

Local people, including Bristol Rising Tide will be offering a alternative point of view between 1300 and 1500 outside Wills Memorial Hall (top of park street) read full story / add a comment

'50% Off Everything, Everywhere, Everyone' reads the voucher that was posted through the door today.

Could Cabot Circus really be offering credit-crunched bristolians 50% off everything?

On closer reading all is explained - "The advertised price of goods under UK law is only an offer - called an 'invitation to treat'. It is legal to negotiate. You may get better discounts if you talk to the manager as part of a large group offering to pay the same price." read full story / add a comment
