Radio 4 recentlt did an interesting program questioning the value of the Regional Development Agencies, the RDAs. We at SWRDAwatch, who keep a beady eye on the activities and spending of our local RDA found this an interesting listen... read full story / add a comment

Today David Heath MP, the nice polite ex-optician who is MP for Yoevill, resigned from the Liberal front bench "on principal" about some chaotic bit of something-or-other about Europe. In October last year he was making chortly jokes accross the chamber about an obvious point of principal to anybody else but himself. read full story / add a comment

Bias is something we all have to deal with. It is down to the individual to review the information and make their own mind up.

I will certainly review this conference - if true and it happens - with a great deal of scepticism.

But I also treat the religious zeal that has become the ACC=Catastrophe bandwagon within Bristol, the SW and parts of the UK with equal scepticism.

In Friday's edition of the Bristol Evening Post the leader column argued that this Lebanese Newspaper editor should not be allowed to speak in the city. So is Mike Norton's (Richard Eddy's and David Cameron's) attempt to muzzle Ibrahim Mousawi motivated by a genuine concern to protect the city from terrorists? Or is Mike an anti-Arab racist betraying his multicultural city for the gold-plated bandwagon of lawless corporations' bloody, oil-grabbing wars? read full story / add a comment

Bristol is relatively well off for green spaces. They are a major city asset and a key reason why the 'green capital' aspiration has at least a little legitimacy. So why does Bristol City Council plan to flog off 90 acres (2.4% of the total) of this key green asset to developers and how can this be considered consistent with plans to be a green city? My answer is - its not (!!) and I've organised an e-petition opposing the sell off: http://epetitions.bristol.gov.uk/petition.php?id=166. Given that the council also currently wants to: build a bus route over the UK's most popular cyclepath (which would also involve the loss of a lot of green space of course); and establish an incinerator to burn west country waste, perhaps the decision on parks and green spaces is no surprise. Read the full article for my green view the council flog-off plans. read full story / add a comment

Dear sir/madam,

I am e-mailing to ask why your paper has not, as far as I can tell, reported on the ongoing trial at Bristol Crown Court of the gang that attacked Henry Webster with a hammer, almost killing him?

Surely an almost fatal attack using a hammer on a 15 year old schoolboy by a large gang including several adults, at a school and in front of younger children and parents is highly newsworthy?

Yet searching your site and having read your newspaper I can find not one reference to it. Trials for less serious crimes and reports of less serious crimes have been carried. The Swindon Advertiser has reported the story (http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/display.var.1965082.0.0.php) Why the Bristol Evening Post's silence over Henry Webster?

Yours faithfully,

Whilst this newswire contains regular inspiring examples of resistance to the forces of darkness (that’s capital and the state if you didn’t know), there is sadly a thread running through it that can make one despair – namely that despite the best efforts of some, ‘we’ keep losing. Of course where there is oppression, injustice and inequality, there is always resistance, and that gives us hope, but we don’t want to just resist all the time – we want to start going on the offensive, and start winning too. read full story / add a comment

At last night's packed meeting to save the Old Vic, it became clear that energetic and innovative leadership is needed to save this national treasure. What I saw of the new leader shows none of this. Bristol has a long and sad history of failing to pull off major projects. This is too important to be left to locals. read full story / add a comment

The Bristol Peace Vigil is a daily reminder of how the Invasion of Iraq really happened. But there are still those who would prefer that we believe the Tony Blair / Alistair Campbell version as originally broadcast by the BBC. They would prefer that this illegal war, perpetrated on a pack of lies, which has cost the lives of so many innocent civilians, continues unchallenged by the truth. read full story / add a comment
