This Thursday, 3 September, sees a second public meeting for the local community being held at Easton Community centre (ECC), starting at 6.30pm. The first meeting was held on 5 August at the same venue. Organised by an ad hoc group of local residents and community activists, it was called in response to concerns over local street crime and the trepidation this was causing amongst the community. read full story / add a comment

You would have thought, wouldn’t you, that after the atrocious Gaza massacre of January 2009, when the whole world witnessed war crimes actually being committed as hundreds of white phosphorous bombs rained down on a blockaded population, that Israel would finally have attained the pariah status and disdain that she deserves. Not so, Gordon Brown, a leader of the civilised world, far from condemning, is a Friend of Israel, and is pleased to welcome Israel’s Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu to London. read full story / add a comment

This article is a protest against the artist known as Banksy. I'm sick of hearing about this street artist come good in the local media constantly. Did he pay for these continued advertisements? His work isn't even any good or relevant to the subject matter. For example, how is a picture of a girl hugging a bomb with a heart over her head any good? I'd call it sick, or pornography even (especially if pleasure is gained from it). Another example of his poorly thought out choice of work is that ridiculous image of that girl searching an Israeli soldier. If Banksy wants to use the Israeli occupation as inspiration for his work I'd suggest that he could do a lot worse than take the Colombian artist Fernando Botero's work as an example. Botero,s work relating to the atrocities he had heard about at Abu Ghraib is truely both a record of events but also thought provoking. read full story / add a comment

Narrated by local poet Miles Chambers, "CULTURE CLASH ON THE FRONT LINE" covers the last six decades of what is now the second largest Jamaican community in the world outside Jamaica. Featuring key members of the St Pauls community "CULTURE CLASH ON THE FRONT LINE" is an emotive and intense story in which subsequent generations of Jamaican descendents go through a process of reconciliation with their past on which to build a positive future for themselves and the proud, colorful anomaly that is St Pauls. read full story / add a comment

Further details with regards to the reasons for the injunction preventing the Big Green Gathering from going ahead by Mendip District Council reveals that despite repeated efforts by the Big Green Gathering, its directors and contractors to assuage the Council's fears by proving that they were indeed complying with the licensing requirements, the Council still went ahead with the injunction. read full story / add a comment

New Labour hatchet man and friend of the bosses, the disgraced politician turned Lord of a manor, Peter Mandelson, announced this week he was shelving plans to part-privatise the Royal Mail, for now. He blamed 'market conditions', by which he meant this wasn't a great time to sell off another public asset, because investors were a bit short of cash and couldn't even afford one of New Labour's carrots to the private sector. Given how much debt New Labour have put us all in by bailing out their mates in the banks, they now need to try and balance the books by flogging off some more of our assets. But for once they do need a decent price, and clearly they dont think they'll get it in the current climate. There are however a few more reasons he didn't care to go into in any detail.... read full story / add a comment
