+ PATRONISING HYPE FOR ID SCHEME +

The UK Identity and Passport Service (UK-IPS) will unveil a marketing
campaign for its ID scheme tomorrow (Friday 25th September) based on
animated fingerprint characters. The Home Office is propagandising
*businesses* rather than the general public in an attempt to give the
impression that the ID scheme is moving forwards whilst in reality
nothing much is actually happening. read full story / add a comment

Local cops are using twitter to give "Operational updates about the policing of Bristol Co-Mutiny actions and events" - it is just me or does that sound less like policing and more like a PR campaign? We've seen the police politicising the policing of events like the G20 and Climate Camp - is it now in Bristol too? read full story / add a comment

IPCC calls for immediate change in policing tactics: G20 pdf Bishopgate Report

Lots of coverage appearing online and on tv news of the latest IPCC report into G20 policing, this one in relation to police tactics in dealing with the Climate Camp on Bishopgate and the specific experiences of one woman mostly at the hands of TSG.

The report is available here:
http://www.ipcc.gov.uk/Bishopsgate_Report.pdf
and reprinted below for information purposes.

HMIC has made three immediate recommendations:

- No surprises – Protestors and public should be made aware of
likely police action in order to make informed decisions.

- A release plan to allow vulnerable or distressed persons or those
inadvertently caught up in the police containment to exit.

- A review of current public order training.

Bates now claims that he is “aware (and will prove) that those images had been “exhaustively” examined (unlawfully) by Avon and Somerset police in September 2008 and were identified as being within active and archived case”. Therefore, he goes on, Mr Port has either been “seriously misled by his own officers”, or presented a misleading and “emotive story for public consumption”. read full story / add a comment

Splice Productions present Barrie Keeffe's shocking play Sus at Bridewell Island this July.

1979. Election night. A police interview room. Delroy is brought in 'on suspicion' and interrogated throughout the night. Next day, the country wakes up to a new Conservative Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.

This production uses archive footage and music to provide an historial and social context, whilst local MCs and DJs add to this hard-hitting and provocative play. read full story / add a comment

Bates: "The evidence I have collected over the six years since I first became involved in Operation ORE is extremely sensitive and undoubtedly includes information that the police (particularly CEOP) would prefer not to see revealed. It is likely that this evidence will eventually lead to exposure of the biggest police scandal that this country has ever seen." read full story / add a comment

After generally being an expert witness for the police computer expert Terence Bates starts to give evidence against the police. Hey presto - he is prosecuted and as the blowback begins for CPS and police corruption and he begins to clear his name the High Court steps in. Colin Port is looking decidedly rattled. read full story / add a comment
