After generally being an expert witness for the police computer expert Terence Bates starts to give evidence against the police. Hey presto - he is prosecuted and as the blowback begins for CPS and police corruption and he begins to clear his name the High Court steps in. Colin Port is looking decidedly rattled. read full story / add a comment

This Sunday, 10 May, sees the Bristol ABC prisoner support group take its turn at hosting the weekly vegan Sunday cafe at Kebele (http://www.kebelecoop.org). The Bristol ABC group has been reactivated over the last year or so. There is a the need to provide support for political prisoners, and radicalised social prisoners, in the UK and abroad; and there is a need to begin campaigning against the prison-industrial complex – the sector of capitalism that makes a profit out of building and running prisons, and is slowly turning the whole of society into one big open prison. As more and more campaigners & protesters (anti-war & anti-militarist, anti-capitalist, animal rights, anti-fascist and more) are being locked away for years on end, our movement needs to increase its work in supporting and campaigning for our comrades & friends imprisoned by the state. read full story / add a comment

With public mistrust in the police, and their political paymasters, running at record high levels, it should come as no surprise that your average PC is not a happy bunny. Their sudden lampooning in the media, alongside the hatred they receive at all times from a large percentage of the population, is driving some of them to distraction. It may not therefore come as a total surprise if they revolted. read full story / add a comment

On 30 April the Met Police met with the Met Police Authority(MPA), chaired by Mayor Boris Johnson, to discuss the G20 policing operation. Meanwhile, seperately it was announced the Met Police had paid out £85,000.00 damages to 5 protesters, who had taken part in a protest at the Mexican Embassy back in 2006. All this will make useful background reading for those attending the Bindymedia film night on May 4, that will discuss the G20, policing and protests (http://bristol.indymedia.org/article/690253). Is it any wonder people are angry and concerned about the actions of the police and the state? No surprise then that this Saturday's protest in Bristol against police brutality and state harassment may attract significant numbers (see http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/article/690284) read full story / add a comment

Wrong place, wrong time Ian Tomlinson was on his way home when he was viciously attacked and killed by riot police at the G20 demonstrations in London. Despite an attempted cover up and sickening lies by the authorities, this time they could not hide the truth. They beat and pushed a man to the floor and watched as he died of internal bleeding. Ian Tomlinson is the latest name in a long, long list and he will not be the last to die at the hands of violent cops. read full story / add a comment

Speaker: Sheila Coleman, David Goldblatt & Daniel Bennett This April is the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough football disaster which killed 96 Liverpool fans and injured hundreds more. Twenty years on, few people know what actually happened and the (now admitted) lies told by the Police to the press at the time remain as many people's memory of events. The coroner and the inquiry narrowly restricted their investigations. Numerous judges have thwarted attempts by the survivors, families and campaign groups to have the events investigated. Injunctions prevent people from speaking about certain aspects of read full story / add a comment

Hello, I am in Bristol magistrates court on the 9th of April charged with criminal damage. Criminal damage within the law is anything that: 'damages, destroys or reduces the life of someone elses property' I went into the town centre and on the pavement -(which is now part private property) wrote on the pavement: Liberty, and the right to question whether we are free and to speak to your neighbours and also ask: are we free? My second chalk ART, was focusing more around the current 'economic crisis' we face and my writing consisted of: AS THE BUILDINGS GO UP, THE WAGES GO DOWN. I was then taken to TRINITY ROAD police station- where my DNA, 6photographs, fingerprints, IMEI code taken from my phone, 150+ digital camera photos looked through to check "for evidence" Anyway to cut a long story short (Ill tell you later anyway) I am appearing in court on the 9th of april @ 9:45am Bristol magistrates court (the new one next to the bus station) Please come if you can and join in the bureaucratic circus formally known as the criminal justice system! Roll up Roll up! Whilst stocks last, I willk also be giving free chalk away on the day! please come bring family friends pets whoever! I really could do with the moral support! They tell us we live in a dangerous world, and Bristols full of crime, although on the days I was arrested, I was dealt with by 4 policemen on the street! Anyway thankyou and i hope to see you soon. :) Paul :) read full story / add a comment |
