Bristol Binmen are on all out strike from this wednesday 10th June, in a dispute over pay. Please send messages of support to pam.jennings@unitetheunion.com

When Sita took on the contract from Bristol City Council to do the refuse collecting and street cleaning, part of the agreement was that they kept the workers on the same contracts as before, holidays, sick pay and an annual (every November) index linked pay rise.

We haven't had a pay rise since Nov 2007. This current dispute relates to a pay increase we were due last November - over 7 months ago ! At that time the inflation rate was running at just below 5% which is why we asked for that amount.

Sita have dragged this dispute out until now and we have voted to strike only as an absolute last resort because we felt we had no alternative. We don't want to strike and are obviously losing money as a result. read full story / add a comment

The council plan to remove the mound along with the mature trees down at what they are calling the 'Cabot Circus' end.
They plan to cut new pathways - Queens Square style, through our green.

Air quality, health, recreation including relaxation all of which amount to quality of Bristol life, are all once again. under threat.
If you intend to vote this June bear this in mind.

Here in Bristol we live in the shadow of Hinkley. Hinkley is a possible site for the next generation of Nuke stations. Help stop them building any more

Today (25 March) is the deadline for submissions to the Government's consultation for Justification for New Nuclear Reactors. This is one of very few chances you have to put forward your concerns on the health effects, etc of nuclear power, as local planning inquiries will refuse to hear these arguments under the new streamlined planning laws.

For your convenience, a sample e-mail is provided, along with contact details. It will only take a minute of your time to copy and paste and send. read full story / add a comment
