For weeks now the British media, police and politicians have been in hysterics over the expected protests against the upcoming G20 meeting in London next week. For even longer, some mainstream media have been flagging up the likelihood of serious social unrest, as a result of the severe crisis of capitalism that is bringing ruin and deprivation to many working class people in Britain. Are they creating a self-fulfilling prophecy? Across Europe, the bosses, politicians and internationalised police forces have been looking worriedly over their shoulders at events in Greece, where a 4 month long revolt continues to shake the foundations of Greek capitalism and the state. This coming weekend many Bristol thinkers, dreamers, outcasts and rebels will also focus on Greece - with a Greek Info Tour on Friday 27 March, followed by a Greek solidarity fundraiser on Saturday 28 March. read full story / add a comment

A noisy protest was held around Bristol prison on Saturday afternoon. The event took place as a show of solidarity with Elija (James) Smith, an EDO Decommissioner on remand inside the prison, and also with Robert Alfrod on remand at HMP Lewes in Brighton, and of course with the other decommissioners out on strict bail conditions. All return to court on 8 May in Brighton. For details of their decommissioning action see http://decommisioners.wordpress.com. I just noticed that Thales has a presence in the St Phillips business park. About a mile from central Bristol. Not sure what they do there. There was a van, and factory type unit. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?daddr=Bristol+BS2+0XJ,+UK...&z=16 This may be of interest to anti-war or ID card campaigners. read full story / add a comment

TWINNING On Friday the Palestinian delegates were whisked from the station to a meeting at the Council House. Twinning Bristol with Gaza is now looking very hopeful. The work of the last two months has already brought together a large number of community, campaign and faith groups, together with educational establishments and a huge grass-roots movement in our city which can make this happen. You can help too by contacting your local Councillor, write via the Council House, or email using www.writetothem.org Worth mentioning that Worcester has been the first city in the UK to twin with Gaza. And Bristol can do the same. read full story / add a comment
