This story is important - one of the impacts of globalisation is to pit workers against each other to drive down wages and conditions. This, I feel, is an example of that where an unfair system is being used to pit worker against worker and while we have to be careful not to stray into lazy thinking over 'foreigners' - it is not the fault of the foreign workers that the bosses are trying to use them in this way, like the rest of us, they are just trying to make a living - but we should support the gain in wages and conditions that we have struggled for over generations. An issue for all the South West/South Wales! read full story / add a comment

Door 69, or just plain '69', is the story of a house that held the hopes and aspirations of young people for nigh on 25 years, in Copenhagen. '69' is a film and you can see it at The Croft on 31 August, at about 6.30pm. read full story / add a comment

as the court date for the 6 Bristol EDO Decommissioners draws closer (currently 26 October...), and the legal wranglings get more intense as the British state seeks to smash dissent, now more than ever is the time to support the Decommissioners! So come to the ball and dance in solidarity...but if you prefer to show your solidarity in other ways this evening (or anytime) then thats great too. read full story / add a comment

This article is a protest against the artist known as Banksy. I'm sick of hearing about this street artist come good in the local media constantly. Did he pay for these continued advertisements? His work isn't even any good or relevant to the subject matter. For example, how is a picture of a girl hugging a bomb with a heart over her head any good? I'd call it sick, or pornography even (especially if pleasure is gained from it). Another example of his poorly thought out choice of work is that ridiculous image of that girl searching an Israeli soldier. If Banksy wants to use the Israeli occupation as inspiration for his work I'd suggest that he could do a lot worse than take the Colombian artist Fernando Botero's work as an example. Botero,s work relating to the atrocities he had heard about at Abu Ghraib is truely both a record of events but also thought provoking. read full story / add a comment

After 19 days, the occupation of the Vestas wind turbine factory in Newport on the Isle of Wight ended yesterday. (See report below for witnessed account of this). As the workers left the factory they said their struggle for jobs and environment will go on and urged us to ‘…fight on!’. Many supporters will stay to picket the factory to stop equipment being removed. Others will go to support the rooftop occupation in Vestas at Cowes. The Vestas workers have been heroic and now we all need to be heroic and make sure this really is ‘…just the beginning!’. The campaigning carries on. It is up to us what happens next. read full story / add a comment

The launch of Primark's second biggest UK store in Bristol next week will be marked by a demonstration over the conditions faced by 7p an hour workers making its clothes. The Bristol-based campaign organisation Labour Behind the Label and the anti-poverty charity War on Want will lead the protest as the four-floor, 90,000 square feet shop opens on Thursday (13 August). The protestors will compare Primark's financial success with workers in Bangladesh producing its clothes for as little as 7p an hour for up to 80-hour weeks, well under a living wage. read full story / add a comment
