A turning point in Hollywood’s history will be marked in Bristol on Wednesday 9 September at Colston Hall when comic actor and writer SANJEEV BHASKAR hosts a night of film, laughter, music and legend, celebrating the moment when LAUREL and HARDY successfully switched from silent movie-making to sound and began their journey towards comedy immortality.

Bhaskar’s guests will include veteran performer JEAN DARLING, who became a Hollywood star at four, is the last of the original Our Gang child actors and who at 87 still has vivid on and off set memories of working with Stan and Ollie.

This article is a protest against the artist known as Banksy. I'm sick of hearing about this street artist come good in the local media constantly. Did he pay for these continued advertisements? His work isn't even any good or relevant to the subject matter.

For example, how is a picture of a girl hugging a bomb with a heart over her head any good? I'd call it sick, or pornography even (especially if pleasure is gained from it).

Another example of his poorly thought out choice of work is that ridiculous image of that girl searching an Israeli soldier.

If Banksy wants to use the Israeli occupation as inspiration for his work I'd suggest that he could do a lot worse than take the Colombian artist Fernando Botero's work as an example.

Botero,s work relating to the atrocities he had heard about at Abu Ghraib is truely both a record of events but also thought provoking.

After 19 days, the occupation of the Vestas wind turbine factory in Newport on the Isle of Wight ended yesterday. (See report below for witnessed account of this). As the workers left the factory they said their struggle for jobs and environment will go on and urged us to ‘…fight on!’. Many supporters will stay to picket the factory to stop equipment being removed. Others will go to support the rooftop occupation in Vestas at Cowes. The Vestas workers have been heroic and now we all need to be heroic and make sure this really is ‘…just the beginning!’. The campaigning carries on. It is up to us what happens next. read full story / add a comment

Further details with regards to the reasons for the injunction preventing the Big Green Gathering from going ahead by Mendip District Council reveals that despite repeated efforts by the Big Green Gathering, its directors and contractors to assuage the Council's fears by proving that they were indeed complying with the licensing requirements, the Council still went ahead with the injunction. read full story / add a comment

IPCC calls for immediate change in policing tactics: G20 pdf Bishopgate Report

Lots of coverage appearing online and on tv news of the latest IPCC report into G20 policing, this one in relation to police tactics in dealing with the Climate Camp on Bishopgate and the specific experiences of one woman mostly at the hands of TSG.

The report is available here:
http://www.ipcc.gov.uk/Bishopsgate_Report.pdf
and reprinted below for information purposes.

HMIC has made three immediate recommendations:

- No surprises – Protestors and public should be made aware of
likely police action in order to make informed decisions.

- A release plan to allow vulnerable or distressed persons or those
inadvertently caught up in the police containment to exit.

- A review of current public order training.
