south west / transport / press release Wednesday August 30, 2006 14:39 by Cat Hobbs
Rail campaigners have joined other local groups in criticising the Draft Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the South West. The final document, produced by the South West Regional Assembly, will shape policy over the next 20 years until 2026. Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways (FOSBR) argue that the overall approach to transport is muddled and unsustainable. They say the RSS should prioritise investment in local rail, rather than airport expansion, road building and a 'Greater Bristol Bus Network'. read full story / add a comment

Fed up with fine words on sustainability but no action, or worse still, retrograde steps? Worried that the SW Regional Spatial Study will not be deliverable because of a lack of funds for integrated transport? Please come along! read full story / add a comment

A cheap 12 seater van can now be hired by groups and individuals around Bristol (and surounding areas if you can pick it up.) This is a not for profit venture, and especially intended to help with those events where you have about a dozen people who want to get somewhere, but you don't want to spend hundreds of pounds doing it through private hire. This is a forwarded message, so please reply to the email provided below: read full story / add a comment

Railway lovers from all over Bristol will gather at 6.45pm on Saturday 13th May to watch 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' at Avonmouth Community Centre. The film tells the story of a village community's defence of its branch railway line in the sixties, a theme that is particularly relevant given the current threat to the Severn Beach line that runs through Avonmouth. The film will be introduced by Ian Marchant, the author of the highly entertaining history of the railway 'Parallel Lines'. read full story / add a comment

After some mealy-mouthed PR spin countering th attacks on First, they then tried to convinve the campaigners to invest in Wirst Boats, the post-climate change alternative to the bus.
