Bristol City Council are proposing that the Portway Park and Ride be expanded from a 320 car parking space site to an 820 parking space site. This would add a further 500 spaces to an already underperforming Park and Ride site that they admit "is not used to capacity" and "fallen below our expectations and has been slow, but there has been an 8% increase in usage in the past year". This is five and a half years since it originally opened in April 2002. But I forget. Government grants are being thrown at this and similar projects so why should we care anyway. It's not our money or is it?! Read on. read full story / add a comment

It has come to light that two drivers who drove their cars into cyclists at the May Critical Mass bicycle ride, have in all likelihood not been charged at all by Avon and Somerset Police. During a larger than usual Critical Mass bike ride in Bristol last May, two drivers intentionally drove into the back of the mass as it rode through St. Augustine's Parade. When police arrived on the scene, they let the drivers go to the dismay of the gathered crowd, and proceeded to arrest two cyclists. read full story / add a comment

We’re on our way to Heathrow climate camp cycling 130 miles from Bristol to London. Today- the 10th of August we held a tremendously successful demonstration outside BIA. As you can see, Sleazyjet and Fryin’air gave BIA officials a run for their money, with over 12 interviews by local media throughout the day. Many people hooted their support including a DHL fuel tanker driver. A BIA airport bus driver even stopped his bus in the middle of the roundabout and gave us a bag of fruit. Then the hot air balloons of Bristol were rising as we rode back into town, excited about our Saturday send off from the fountains in the cenrtre of Bristol. HEAThrow here we come! read full story / add a comment
