Today, Bristol University Students have been invited to a Engineering and IT Careers Fair. However, a brief look at the lists of companies and what they do to make their money, makes it seems like a list of who's who of environmentally and socially destructive companies. Local people, including Bristol Rising Tide will be offering a alternative point of view between 1300 and 1500 outside Wills Memorial Hall (top of park street) read full story / add a comment

Biofuels far from the panacea to petrol prices and climate change, have added to the global food price hike by taking land previously occupied by food crops. A study by the University of Minnesota found that growing biofuel on converted rainforests, peat lands, savannas or grasslands created up to 420 times more carbon dioxide than it saved. read full story / add a comment

From today, all petrol forecourts will be required by law to sell only fuel which is blended with 2.5% agrofuel. The answer to climate chaos you ask? Hardly. Corporations like Tesco are already jumping on the new "green" bandwagon, speaking little of the greater emissions, displacement, poverty and hunger that will be left in its path. read full story / add a comment

On 15th April, the mandatory biofuel blending (RTFO) comes in, meaning that 2.5% of fuel sold at the pump must contain agrofuel. The Government is promoting this as yet another false technical fix for climate change, despite it's Chief Scientist's doubts about their sustainability. read full story / add a comment

A group of ‘climate refugees’ are blocking the vehicle entrance to the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Corporate Offices at Temple Quay to shine the spotlight on climate criminals RBS, the self-proclaimed ‘Oil and Gas’ Bank. Six people from Bristol Rising Tide for Climate Action dressed as homeless polar bears have locked themselves together and are currently preventing all vehicles entering the RBS branch. This is part of a National Day of Local Action against the Royal Bank of Scotland called by those hugely concerned with the devastation to the climate, planet and people.[1] read full story / add a comment

Offset This 8/6/07 international day of action against climate change and the G8 has been called by the international rising tide network. this is a call for autonomous, decentralised actions appropriate to our city in solidarity with those resisting the G8 in Germany and in resistance to all the G8 represents, its continued reliance of oil burning and oil wars. In Bristol there will be a meeting at Kebele, 14 Robertson Road on Tuesady 29th May 7.30pm May to get together with everyone who wants to plan for the Friday 8th June. The intention is for this to be a solidarity action not just a rising tide action. There will be flyers announcing this at Kebele, if you can distribute (they are post cards that say Offset This). Pass this on. See you on the streets! love bristol rising tide read full story / add a comment

If you want to get to the protest against the building of the pipline in Wales, lend a hand, take banners, blankets, orchestra, hot tea, popular education. Here are some dierctions: Off the A40 4 Miles West of Brecon Near the church look out for the banner that says 'STOP THE PIPELINE' A Bristol activist said today that the pipeline is in the second phase of building. Campers have set up by occupying the land and set up a platform in the trees and camping on the ground. Tree cutting has been happening.
